Independent Pendulum Drive Unit

This unit allows you to equip a tall clock case with an inexpensive quartz clock motor and swing a long wood stick or lyre pendulum like those used with very expensive mechanical clock movements. The battery holder can be remotely mounted for easy battery access.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product. Easy instalation. I had to work with my pendulum a bit to trim off some weight but once I did that it worked perfectly. A definite go-to product for unconventional designers.

Does this product make an audible 'tic toc' sound accustomed to a mechanical movement?

Asked by: TimZ
Hi TimZ, this pendulum drive unit will not offer the 'tic toc' sound you seek. The audible 'tic toc' sound is typically provided from the clock mechanism.

Hi, That is possible that If the weight of my pendulum is to light (weight under 2.5 pound), that was the reason why my pendulum stop to swing?

Asked by: Karine
Hi Karine, it depends on how light your pendulum is. There are a few trouble shooting tips we can help you with to get your pendulum running again. We'll reach out to you via email with more details.

Can you tell me how this works? I have a grandfather clock that has always swung weakly and now stops every few days, even after lube and adjustment. I'm looking for a "helper" drive perhaps hall sensor / magnetic assist to keep the pendulum swinging.

Asked by: rantuhl
Hi Rantuhl, this pendulum drive unit mounts to the back of the clock case. This unit swings a pendulum that will weigh 2.5 pounds or under. The swing will not be large, only a couple of inches from left to right. The drive operates on 1 “D” battery which is separate from the clock movement.

I am installing a quartz movement in an old clock case that is quite deep.  A quartz movement pendulum would swing too close to the front and not look right.  Can your independent drive be used on lighter weight, shorter pendulums?

Hi Jim, we'll need more details about your project before answering your question. We'll reach out to you soon via email.

What are some of the specs?  Max length pendulum and some examples of lengths and swings to estimate swing for my desired length. How large is the unit itself. Etc.

Asked by: Randy 1915
Hi Randy, the swing will depend on your pendulum length, weight, and bob diameter. This unit can swing up to 2.5 pounds. The overall dimensions are 6 7/8"H x 2 3/4"W x 1 7/8"D. Please contact us at 1-800-556-2548 and we will walk you through some scenarios to estimate your desired pendulum length.

Is period set by pendulum length (e.g. 39 inches=1 sec)? How does maximum bob weight vary with length of pendulum? Is the mechanism essentially silent, or if not, what? Thanks

Hi PennBob, we will be in touch soon via email to obtain more detail from you to answer your questions above.
