The Churchill Grandfather Clock is a Klockit customer favorite! Our woodworking clock plan will guide you to build a classic, straight-waisted case that is enhanced with a swan neck, turned finial, and fluted columns. Glass sides let you view the brass lyre pendulum and weights.
The Churchill Grandfather Clock is designed to accept one of four mechanical movement possibilities:
The mechanical clock movement, clock face, pendulum and weight shells must be purchased separately.
Clock Plan contains a construction booklet which will detail specifications for each wood part. This clock plan also includes written and illustrated assembly booklets as well as a trace pattern for some parts.
Component Package contains all necessary hardware and fasteners for assembly. Also includes the surface mount lock, key plate (escutcheon), leg levelers, grill cloth, glass retainer, and hinges.
Glass Package contains a set of (4) four glass pieces: (1) Upper, (1) Lower and (2) Side glass panels. The Lower Front and Side glass panels are beveled; the Upper glass panel is plain (non-beveled).

Beautiful end resultI bought this kit in cherry with the tubular chimes in 2005. Finally finished it last month and everyone who has seen it can't believe the final result. Finished it in about 12 coats of a 50/50 mix of raw linseed oil and gum turpentine with three wax coats of ⅓ each raw linseed oil, gum turpentine and bees wax. The brass tubes sound great although the timing of each note is a little irregular. Also used the beveled glass kit and only broke 1 piece, the non-beveled top door glass which I need to replace. Not for a first time builder but worth the effort.

These plans try to do too much! The problem is, these plans try to do "all-in-one" for those building from scratch and those putting together a kit.
There is so much material to wade through that I ended up making my own drawings after fumbling through all the stuff to get dimensions. When I was roughing out my lumber for the stiles, for example, I misread the dimension for the door stiles and cut them too short. The dimension I was looking at was the interior of the edge door molding, not the actual length of the door! I had to search almost five minutes to find the dimension I needed. I had two pieces of expensive scrap because of it. You have two detailed books to search through when you need a dimension. The diagrams are filled with dimensions of where to put the screws (like I don't know where to drive a screw?) all mixed in with "important" dimensions. Very frustrating.
I hate to be so negative about this because it is obvious great effort was put into making these plans. It's very much a case of "woodworking for dummies" and "woodworking for the experienced" all in one package. Both groups are going to struggle.
On a positive note, the full scale templates were very helpful as were the drawings in the Assembly book (though there were few dimensions causing me to write them in).
I wondered why the plans cost $30 at the time I ordered them but with all the volume of stuff you get, I understand.

do you sell the clock pendulem weights ect
Asked by: thumbuster
Yes, we do sell the clock pendulum and weight shell sets. The clock movement you select for this clock will determine which pendulum and weight shell set(s) to choose from.
Here's a list of the clock movements that can be used with this clock: 13044, 13075, or 13088. If you search these item numbers on our website, it will show you which pendulum and weight shell sets work with the specific movement. You may also purchase 13055, which is a set that includes the movement, dial, pendulum, and weight shells.

I have purchased the Churchill clock plan. Is there a cut list and/or an approximation of the number of board feet of solid stock needed? Thanks.
